In Numbers

Holland score 120; Pakistan chase in 16.4 overs          Pakistan score 140; Holland need 116

Holland score 150; Pakistan chase in 17 overs              Pakistan score 170; Holland need 146

Holland score 180; Pakistan chase in 17.2 overs          Pakistan score 200; Holland need 176

This isn’t necessarily as clear cut as it seems. At first sight you think that Pakistan should definitely chase if they win the toss. However, this means that Nannes and Ten Doeschate bowl a greater percentage of the overs, knowing that the last few overs will be meaningless. Either way Pakistan will have to play well.

What about team selection? Well Sohail Tanvir needs to play if he is fit. The guy was comfortably the best bowler in the IPL last year and should be a handful for the Dutch, even if he hasn’t been in the greatest form. Secondly, given the circumstances Salman Butt shouldn’t be in the team, let alone opening. Thirdly, Misbah is the best batsman in 20-20 and needs to bat at number 4.

So the final XI should be

1) Ahmed Shahzad (more hitting potential than Butt – also if gets out he wouldn’t have wasted half the innings)

2) Kamran Akmal (arguably the cleanest hitter in the team right now – sad 😦

3) Younis Khan (time for a captains innings)

4) Misbah (the best pakistani batsman in t20 – needs time to play)

5) Shoaib Malik (under-rated middle order player, although was sleeping in the england team)

6) Shahid Afridi (batting has gone beyond parody with commentators making fun of him closing his eyes)

7) Shahzaib Hasan (why not? – tanvir was unknown and we might as well give him a go)

8) Yaser Arafat (good in the death and may provide some critical runs)

9) Sohail Tanvir (who cares if he isn’t in great form?)

10) Saeed Ajmal (great prospect….wait a second he’s 31? and that’s in pakistan years – sad)

11) Umar Gul (looked good against england but needs to cut out the sloppiness)
